On the back of numerous ups and downs in Berlin this past week, a 1-2 finish may not have been the first result the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team expected for last night’s season finale. But that’s exactly what the drivers got – ending the Team’s inaugural season in Formula E on an all-time high. Both drivers ended last night’s final ePrix on the podium, with Stoffel Vandoorne taking home first place and Nyck De Vries second.
After a picture-perfect qualifying round, Stoffel kicked off the race in pole position (perhaps aided by a bit of extra #PoweredbyVestas luck!). He maintained his lead for the entirety of the race, fending off all advances and cruising into first-place victory. Likewise, Nyck also got off to a great start in P4. Applying relentless pressure to the highly-experienced Sebastian Buemi, who had started the race in P2, Nyck picked up two places to clinch second place just behind Stoffel.
Both Stoffel and Nyck handled the curveballs of the complex Tempelhof circuit smoothly and managed the cars’ energy extremely well. Last night’s success launched Stoffel into second place for the Driver’s Championship, and the Team finished in third place overall for the Team Championships – what a conclusion to the Team’s first season in Formula E!
Thanks to all who pitched in to give the drivers a #Fanboost in Berlin and cheered them on from afar! We’re as proud as ever to keep the Team #PoweredbyVestas, and if Season Six is any indication, we’re in for an exciting ride.
