Round 10:

It was a tricky start to qualifying for the Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team, and Stoffel Vandoorne and Nyck de Vries finished in tenth and fifth respectively in their qualifying groups, eliminating them both from the final knock-out stages.

Nyck began the race from P9 and quickly moved himself up to P7 in the early laps of the race. He fought hard throughout the race and crossed the finish line in P6 after 34 laps of racing. Stoffel began the race at the back of the grid in P20, with a very difficult battle on his hands in the heat of the Moroccan sun. The driver put on a phenomenal performance and managed to gain twelve places throughout the race, eventually taking the chequered flag in P8, scoring valuable points for the team.

Season 8:

Following Saturday’s race, Stoffel now sits in third place in the Drivers’ World Championship with 125 points, just fourteen points off the Championship leader. Nyck is now in seventh place, with a total of 73 points scored so far this season. The Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team have moved down to third place overall in the Team Championship, with a total of 198 points and just seven points away from the frontrunners.

Ian James, Team Principal of the Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team expressed his views on the race and described the results as “damage limitation”. He spoke about the outcome and action of the race and highlighted the challenge that now lies ahead going into New York: “With regards to the race, we knew that we had a huge amount of ground to make up if we were to get back into the points. Nyck did a very solid job of making sure that we claimed 6th position after some spirited driving from his side. Stoffel showed his race-craft, coming from 20th to finish in P8. So, a tough weekend all in all. We come away from Marrakesh with some points but obviously, we have given ourselves a challenge moving forward as we head off to New York.”

The Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team have less than two weeks to go before they are back on track for the New York City E-Prix, where they’ll be hoping to secure some solid points in the double-header event and gain back those crucial championship positions!
