For the first time since 2016, the UK capital will be host to the penultimate double-header in Season 7. Heading into Round 12, the Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team are currently fifth in the Team Standings, but the gap separating the top three teams is as tight as just 33 points. The Team is more determined than ever to score some valuable points this weekend, having come home empty-handed for the past three rounds of racing. In the Drivers’ Standings, Nyck de Vries currently sits in P10 and Stoffel Vandoorne in P13, but the battle remains tight with just 27 points separating the top 15 drivers. The double-header in London this weekend has every potential of shaking up the order entirely.

The Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team are feeling confident towards their shot at redemption in the big smoke, with Nyck de Vries commenting ahead of the race: “We’ve obviously had a bit of a tougher period recently, so this will be a good time to bounce back and score some decent points.” His teammate, Stoffel Vandoorne, shared these sentiments and considered the challenge of the new track layout: “Overall, the circuit’s characteristics will most likely have an effect during the race – it’s uncharted territory for everyone in terms of the lower energy management.”

It will be the Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team’s debut in London, and the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship’s first race at the brand new ExCeL Circuit. What is most unique about this new racing scene is the fact that the 2.252km long track passes inside through one of the exhibition halls, a first for top-level international motorsport. With 22 corners and a backdrop of East London’s docklands, the weekend is likely to be an exciting one. Current forecasts for Saturday’s race suggest rain earlier in the day and showers later on, adding to the anticipated drama of the new circuit and with 89% humidity expected on Sunday, anything could happen!
